THIS FOREST IS CORE KOALA HABITAT

-
SEQ Koala Conservation Strategy 2020-2025 states that core koala habitat forests are prohibited from being logged; however State Forests are not mentioned in this Strategy. Remember the Queensland Government has identified Ferny Forest as core koala habitat. This forest is not a monoculture plantation.
-
On 11 Feb 2022, the status of koalas in Queensland was raised from Vulnerable to Endangered.
-
SEQ is famous for being a biodiversity hotspot.
-
Logging this forest may damage or destroy its conservation values just as it is about to transition to a more protected area.

In April 2022, fourteen healthy koalas were found in Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Gardens.
This Botanic Gardens is less than 7km from Ferny Forest.
Unfortunately we are doing a great job of driving koalas to extinction.
Ferny Forest and the surrounding forests are separated by ever widening roads. Less than a decade ago, locals (at Daisy's Place and private properties adjacent to Ferny forest and Mooloolah River NP) describe hearing koalas bellowing to each other through the night, but now many of those the koalas have probably died through car strikes, dog attacks and disease.
The following images are of unwell, displaced and dead koalas.

We need core koala habitat actually protected and more wildlife bridges and tunnels built across roads.
Koalas need to be able to move between forests so they don't interbreed and so they don't become trapped if there is danger such as fire.
