Business Impact

Local businesses are against the current TMR State Government design for the Steve Irwin Way/Bruce Highway Intersection. www.exit190.com

Presently over 25 businesses and community groups have signed a letter of support calling for a redesign of the Interchange that serves local residents, businesses, and the environment. A number of businesses said if the current TMR Plan goes ahead it would be "the end for their business" and "local jobs would be lost".  They recognise they will lose access to business from passing highway traffic. Some businesses are having difficulty now, and any disruption may be enough to close them down.

Daisy's Place Restuarant

All businesses are calling for a redesign that retains direct highway access instead of a 6km extra loop access.  An overpass and extra bridge lane on the north entrance was suggested as a more cost-effective alternative that doesn’t waste tax-payers money and cost local jobs.

Two successful local established businesses that will be affected by the current plan are:

  • The Skin Thing - which has successfully operating at its current location for over 40 years and knows the area intimately.

  • Daisy’s Place - an iconic, award-winning restaurant set against the backdrop of a beautiful rainforest setting.

A lot of work and money has gone into setting up local businesses in this location.  It would be a huge travesty and waste if the current State Government TMR Plan goes ahead  resulting in the loss of local businesses and jobs.
